American Land Title, LLC was initially founded and incorporated in 1984 in Middlebury, Vermont as American Land Title, Inc. It has grown steadily over the years, having searched many titles and issued thousands of title insurance policies. In September 2014, Janet Shaw purchased the business from its principal owners at which time it became American Land Title, LLC. There is one fully staffed office centrally located in Middlebury, exclusively serving buyers and borrowers in Addison County and its surrounding towns in northern Rutland County and southern Chittenden County.

Janet graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Boston College in 1981 with degrees in Political Science and History. She obtained her law degree from Albany Law School, Union University in 1985 and was admitted to the Vermont Bar at the end of that year. Janet has practiced law in Middlebury since 1987 and since 2003 has focused entirely on real estate transactions for buyers and borrowers. She is a member of the Addison County Bar Association and Vermont Bar Association. Janet has lived in Vermont since 1973 and lives in Bristol where she and her husband raised their three children. She enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, reading a good book and spending time with her grown children and granddaughter.
